Frequently asked questions about English A1

What are English A1 texts like?

They are very short texts of about 50 to 100 words, with simple sentences in the present tense and everyday vocabulary: introducing yourself, family, home, food or your daily routine.

How do I know if I'm at level A1?

Read one of the texts at this level without a translator. If you get the general idea and most of the details, and answer almost all the questions correctly, it's your level. If it feels effortless, try the next level up; if you get lost in every sentence, start with the level below.

Can I use them to prepare for a English A1 exam?

Yes, as reading comprehension practice. The questions follow the usual formats of that part of official A1 exams: multiple choice, true or false and matching. They don't replace a full mock exam, but they give you daily practice with texts at your level.

How can I practise English reading comprehension at A1?

Read the text once without help to get the general idea. Then listen while following the text, tap any words you don't know and answer the questions. Finally, review the new vocabulary. A short reading every day works better than many at once.

Are the English A1 readings free?

There are 2 free English A1 readings, no registration needed, with audio, questions and a translation. The paid plans have more readings at this level and tools to review vocabulary.
